MONOLITH NO.1

Monolith No. 1 is a sculptural chair that explores the relationship between mass, space, and image. Constructed as a seemingly solid volume, the piece is defined by a central void that reveals an unexpected interior surface: an original oil painting embedded within the structure itself.

The chair draws from the language of monolithic architecture—simple geometric forms, weight, permanence, and presence—while introducing a hidden layer of narrative through the painted interior. The artwork is not applied as decoration but integrated as an essential component of the object, transforming the chair into both functional furniture and spatial artwork.

Finished in richly figured burl wood veneer, Monolith No. 1 invites viewing from multiple perspectives. From a distance it appears as a singular carved form; upon closer inspection, the interior painting emerges as a contained landscape, a private world framed by the geometry of the piece.

Balancing utility and sculpture, Monolith No. 1 exists at the intersection of collectible design, fine art, and architecture.
